Installing enough lighting sources in the kitchen is something we all need to consider to make our daily lives much easier. The general lighting fixtures like the chandeliers, ceiling pendants, track lighting and recessed lighting play a major role that we can’t deny in providing the kitchen with the enough lighting it needs, but we also can’t deny the great effect of the other lighting types like task lighting and accent lighting.
If we start with the task lighting, we will find that it’s more like our close friend in the kitchen. It’s like your portable flashlight that you take in every place in your kitchen to help you to finish specific tasks like, cooking, preparing food, preparing a cup of tea or chopping the salad.
Now, take a second and think of all the previous tasks I mentioned or any other tasks you do in your kitchen and then take a look at your kitchen and try to determine exactly the spots where you usually do these tasks, wondering why am I asking you to do this? Because, this the best way that will help you to choose the most perfect places in which you need to install the task lighting in your kitchen.
Generally, these places are under the cabinet, above the kitchen sink, inside the kitchen cabinets and above the stove if you don’t have a kitchen hood, because usually most kitchen hoods come with built in lighting. Now, imagine how easy your life will become if you have that much of lighting in your kitchen, wherever you need to do something in your kitchen, you will always find a lighting source that help you; told you it’s like the flashlight.
You will find several types of the task lighting fixtures to choose from like, LED strips and LED puck lights. The good news is, even if you don’t have wires for these fixtures, you will find some wireless types that work with batteries and some of these types come with a remote control, who would ask for more?
If you already have electric wires in your kitchen for the task lighting, make sure to install separate light switch to simply control the lighting and the general ambience of your kitchen instead of lighting all the fixtures every time you walk into your kitchen.
The second lighting type we will be talking about is the accent or decorative lighting. It’s an optional type to use, because it’s only used to enhance the beauty of your kitchen design or to stand out a special piece in your kitchen like, a wall painting, mirror or any piece of art.
You can also use the accent lighting to draw the attention to the ceiling or the floor by installing above cabinets lighting or floor lighting. The above cabinets lighting could also be used to enhance the beauty of a green plant you have above your kitchen cabinets, for example.
Theses accent lighting come in several colors like, white, blue and green; they really give an amazing impression to any kitchen design and they are considered as a gorgeous indirect lighting as well. You can either use plinth lights or LED strip lights; they both come in several colors and give the same impressive results.
Wall scones can also be used as an accent lighting type in your kitchen or as decorative pieces. For example, you can install couple of wall scones at both sides of a hutch in your kitchen. You can also use them as decorative task lighting by installing them above the kitchen sink or kitchen window.
