Countertops – like anything else – get worn with age and use no matter how strong is their material. You must have a countertop in your kitchen that lasted a few decades, and now it has some weird stains and faded spots here and there that you cannot get rid of. Learn in this article how to paint your counter to make it brand new in easy steps:
- Before painting your countertop, or anything for that matter, you need to clean it. Scrub clean any grime and grease stains on it.
- your countertop surface must have some cracks and flaws. Repair them by filling them with wood filler and then let it dry. After that, sand the surface with fine grit sandpaper. Then, wipe the countertop with a soft cloth. After that, cover the spaces you want to protect from paint with painter’s tape and remove the sink and any other attachments if needed. Do not forget to cover the floors and the walls close to the counter with a some old newspapers or any type of cover.
- Prime the countertop with primer two times at least and let it dry out between the coats and after them.
- Pick a paint color for your countertop. If you want the countertop to look and feel gorgeous, choose a stone-textured paint and a roller to paint it with. Give it two coats of paint and let them dry for an overnight. It is better if you open the windows in the place where you are painting your countertops.
– Apply a topcoat (polyurethane) after paint dries out, and let it dry out as well. With a moist sanding sponge, Sand gently then reapply the topcoat and sand it again twice more. Take your time with this last step to get better results.
